Description/Taste
Refried beans are made with Pinto beans that are cooked, mashed and fried in lard. Otherwise known as "frijoles refritos" in Spanish, the term "refried" gives a misinformed translation. The Pinto beans are only fried once, not twice, as the name suggests. The Spanish use of the "re-" prefix means "very" in Spanish. Therefore, "refried" beans truly means "very fried" beans in Spanish.
