Famously referred to by the ancient Greek poet Homer as "a gift from the gods," pears have been enjoyed for centuries. There are over a hundred different varieties of pears and Bartlett is the most common. Pear halves are skinned and cut down the middle into two equal sections. Pear halves are often used in baking application such as tarts, fruit fillings, preserves or on top of salads and even pizza.
