Sanguinelli blood oranges are roughly rounded in shape with a semi-thin, smooth red-blushed peel that clings to its juicy and sweet, segmented flesh. The fruit can be elongated because of the high juice content. The flesh of the Sanguinelli is orange with multiple blood-colored streaks and like most blood oranges contains numerous seeds.

It is a hybrid variety that evolved from unknown parentage. The Sanguinelli is close in characteristics to the Moro blood orange.
