IFG37 grapes are medium to large in size and are oblong and elongated in shape with the non-stem end tapering off into a small, slight point. Growing in tightly packed, sometimes heavy bunches, the smooth, thin, skin is vibrant green, firm, and slightly crisp with a snap-like feel. The translucent green flesh is juicy, soft, and seedless. IFG37 grapes are sweet with a unique muscat flavor including floral and honey notes.
IFG37 grapes are available in the summer.
IFG37 grapes are a new hybrid that was created in partnership between Murray Family Farms and International Fruit Genetics (IFG). Released in 2018, IFG37 grapes are a unique finger grape variety that is packed with distinct flavors in an unusual, elongated shape. The genealogy of IFG37 remains proprietary to IFG, but the release of this variety contributes to a new era of table grapes that have more than just the mild, traditional grape flavor. IFG37 grapes are designed to be consumed as a sweet table grape and were created naturally without the use of additives or genetically modified organisms (GMO).
Grapes are an excellent source of vitamins A, C, K, and the heart-healthy phytonutrient, resveratrol.
IFG37 grapes are best suited for raw applications as they were created to be a table grape consumed fresh, out of hand. The unique muscat flavor provides a hint of sweetness and can be served chilled or mixed in with fruit or green salads. Their elongated shape can also be sliced lengthwise and served with cheeses and spreads to create an unusual bite-sized appetizer. IFG37 grapes pair well with salty nuts, soft cheeses, leafy greens, and both sweet and savory dishes.
Partnerships like the one between Murray Family Farms and International Fruit Genetics (IFG) are paving the way for the creation of new varieties using experimental and innovative growing techniques to meet changing consumer demand. IFG uses traditional breeding techniques mixed with a unique process known as embryo rescue, which is a procedure that involves pollinating an emasculated flower and growing the immature seed in a test tube with specialized materials. This highly focused technique allows for the most desirable traits to be chosen to make new varieties suitable for market introduction. Murray Family Farms also has an extensive history of developing experimental growing techniques which complement IFG's processes and creates a unique and successful partnership.
IFG37 grapes were released in the summer of 2018 exclusively by Murray Family Farms in partnership with International Fruit Genetics in Bakersfield, California. Murray Family Farms is known for both their unique cherry and grape varieties. Today, IFG37 grapes can be found at the Big Red Barn and Little Purple Barn in Bakersfield and select farmers markets across southern California in the United States.
