Traditional Chinese Medicine uses roses to treat digestive disorders and relieve pain from injuries. Research shows that a tea made from rose petals can also help to alleviate pain associated with menstruation.
Applications
Rose Little Red Corvette™ flowers are best suited as an edible accent, added at the end of preparation to maintain the flower’s delicate shape and texture. The entire flower is edible and can be used whole to create a stunning presentation, or the petals can be separated and spread throughout the dish. The flowers can be sprinkled over salads, floated over soups and curries, placed into fruit bowls, or used as a garnish for sushi and sashimi. The flowers can also be used to decorate seafood dishes such as calamari, ceviche, and shrimp cocktail, or strategically placed on pasta, seafood, sandwiches, appetizers, and other main plates for added aesthetic. In addition to using the flowers in their natural form, the blooms can be frozen into ice cubes to add color and flavor to a beverage, or they can be pressed into cookies and soft cheeses for an elevated appearance. Rose Little Red Corvette™ flowers can also be used to accent desserts such as cakes, scones, sorbets, crème brulee, cookies, puddings, and tarts, or they can be used as a garnish in craft cocktails. Rose Little Red Corvette™ flowers pair well with chocolate, fruits such as coconut, strawberries, lemons, passionfruit, mango, and cherries, herbs including lavender, parsley, and mint, and soft cheeses like goat and brie. Rose Little Red Corvette™ flowers should be used immediately for the best quality and flavor and will keep 2 to 4 days when stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
Ethnic/Cultural Info
Red roses are one of the most well-known and enduring symbols of love and beauty in Western culture. In Greek mythology, the red rose sprouted when Adonis, Aphrodite’s lover, was mortally wounded by a wild boar. Overcome with grief; the goddess cried over his body. Her tears mixed with his blood and fell to the ground, sprouting a crimson rose where they landed. This symbol of love endured through the Victorian era, where red roses were commonly used to send messages of love. This tradition was solidified by the poet and playwright William Shakespeare, who likened love to a rose in Romeo and Juliet. Today, red roses are used in bridal bouquets to signify marital bliss, as well as purity, loveliness, and romantic love. Rose Little Red Corvette™ flowers are the perfect garnish to use on wedding cakes, desserts for anniversary parties, and during Valentine’s Day, a holiday that celebrates love and commitment in Western culture.
Geography/History
Roses are one of the oldest and most widely cultivated flowers in the world, with fossil records tracing the origin of the rose back over 35 million years. Modern-day rose varieties originated in Asia over 5,000 years ago. The blooms and seeds were spread along trade routes into Europe and Africa. The popularity of the flowers grew through the Middle Ages, weaving into the folklore of many different cultures, including Greek, Roman, and Christian mythologies. Roses can grow in a variety of climates, including the Alaskan tundra and Northwest Africa. Rose Little Red Corvette™ flowers were developed by Fresh Origins Farm, located in San Marcos, California. Fresh Origins grows over 60 varieties of edible flowers and uses the mild and sunny Southern California climate year-round to produce flavorful, attractive, safe, and quality blooms.
