Seasons/Availability
Giant Fire Leaf™ is available year-round.
Current Facts
Giant Fire Leaf™ is a young, edible green, a part of a trademarked line of specialty greens grown by Fresh Origins Farm in San Diego, California. Designed to be slightly larger than microgreens and Petite® Greens, Giant Fire Leaf™ is harvested at least six weeks after sowing. Giant Fire Leaf™ is commonly used by chefs as a garnish to accent dishes with its tangy lemon-like flavor, vibrant color contrast, and tender texture.
Nutritional Value
The nutritional value of Giant Fire Leaf™ has not been extensively studied, but greens with similar properties have been found to contain high levels of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, an antioxidant that supports immune health, and vitamin K, a vitamin that helps form blood clotting proteins within the body. Furthermore, growing conditions significantly impact the nutritional content, and Fresh Origins cultivates its greens in a natural setting, an ideal climate for healthy, optimal greens.
Applications
Giant Fire Leaf™ greens are best suited for raw applications as they can handle the mild heat, but their overall tender and delicate nature cannot withstand prolonged periods of high heat. The greens are most commonly used as a garnish to enhance the flavor and visual appeal of a dish. The greens are also used in fresh green salads, in a bed of greens under scallops, in soups, sandwiches, fruit salads, omelets, and on top of main dishes and appetizers. Giant Fire Leaf™ greens can be used in desserts such as ice cream, gelato, and sorbet, pastries, cocktails, or scattered in punch bowls. Giant Fire Leaf™ pairs well with seafood such as scallops, shrimp, salmon, halibut, lobster, and clams, chicken, pork, veal, eggs, potatoes, heirloom tomatoes, watermelon, peaches, strawberries, and vanilla. The leaves will keep for 7 to 10 days when stored unwashed in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
