Geography/History
Orchids are one of the oldest flowering plants and have a vast history, recent studies show certain variates of orchids grew as far back as Mesozoic era during the time of the dinosaurs. With the Victorian era came the onset of orchid hunters who popularized the orchid by going on expeditions to tropical regions of the world in search of new orchid varieties to bring back to England. Orchid hunting proved to be extremely dangerous not only because of the natural dangers of the jungles but as result of the fierce competition that occurred between the hunters. Today, orchids can be found growing in nearly all regions of the world with the exception of Antarctica.
