Current Facts

The Fresh Origins Tenergreens™ line are the most mature greens grown by the company, featuring larger leaves the maintain their firm and voluminous shape, making them ideal for both garnishing and salads. The herb salad mix is a modern adaptation of the soft aromatic herbs traditionally used to build flavor in cooking. The exact blend of the Tendergreens™ Herb salad is propriety to Fresh Origins, but it may include varieties of basil, chive, chervil, tarragon, arugula, and sorrel. The herbs are arvested approximately 8 to 10 weeks after sowing, once the leaf has matured but maintains its delicate texture, resulting in an intense yet balanced flavor profile that works well in a variety of cuisines. Ethnic/Cultural Info
Aromatic Herbs have been used in cooking for centuries. The addition of these delicate greens not only adds nutritional and medicinal qualities to the dish, but they also enhance the flavor by engaging the olfactory sensors in the nose. Although taste and smell are separate senses, the two are closely entwined when detecting the flavor of food. Modern cuisine has taken the concept of multi-sensory eating to new heights, bringing in all five senses. Multi-sensory dining gained popularity in the 2010s with restaurants creating unique dining experiences that engaged all five senses, such as Alinea in Chicago who is renowned for creating artistic menus that use sounds, smells, and textures to evoke a deeper enjoyment of the plated food. According to neuro-scientist Gordon M. Shepard, all five senses play a part in the flavor of food. The color of the palate, the feel of the plate or silverware used, the ambient soundscape, and the scent released can all build a sense of nostalgia or trigger a memory that heightens the shared dining experience. Modern Chefs are now challenging themselves to curate multi-sensory experiences at every level of cuisine, from gastropubs to fine dining, using unique, flavorful, and highly aromatic ingredients similar to the Tendergreens™ Herb Salad.
