Description/Taste
Indian shallot is a member of the Allium or Onion family and is known in Hindi as Gandhana pyaz. The outer skin of the Indian shallot is covered in a paper thin layer, that is easy to peal and has a football-like shape. Once the outer skin is removed, the inner flesh of the shallot in tinged with red and purple hues. Mainly used as a flavoring for curries, the Indian shallot offers a mild onion flavor.
