Potatoes - Yams - Cultivation
Yams are a perennial herbaceous vine that grows in warm, tropical, and humid climates. Yams need full sun and fertile, sandy, and loose loam soil that is well-draining. Mulch is needed to suppress the growth of weeds and can be made up of straw, dry coconut fronds, or other organic material. The vines of the plant love to climb and need a trellis, stake, or structure to support the weight of the plant as it matures. Yams are planted in the late spring and are typically harvested in the winter.
