Description/Taste
Petite® Shiso Mix™ is a blend of red and green shiso, with each microgreen bearing 1 to 2 small leaves connected to a slender stem, averaging 3 to 4 centimeters in length. The oval leaves are broad, flat, and lightly fuzzy with curved, smooth to lightly serrated edges. The leaves also vary in color from dark green to green, tinged with a deep red, burgundy hue. Petite® Shiso Mix™ has a soft, crisp, succulent, and tender consistency. Within the mix, the aromatic combination of red and green shiso combines to create an earthy, herbal, and sweet flavor with delicate notes of basil, cinnamon, fennel, mint, clove, and anise.

Ethnic/Cultural Info
Shiso was first cultivated and used as an oil for lamps, but became too expensive to maintain. The shiso migrated to Japan from China in which is was used for culinary applications and medicine.
Geography/History
Shiso is native to East China where it is both cultivated and grows wild. It is also a traditional crop of India, Japan, Korea and Thailand. It is a member of the Mint family, Lamiaceae, which contains many other aromatic and herbaceous plants including basil, mint, sage and lavender.
