Petite® Tangerine Lace™ is small in size, averaging 7-10 centimeters in length, and has flat feathery leaves with long, thick, and juicy pale green stems. The emerald green leaves are narrow, deeply lobed, and have serrated or toothed edges with the ends slightly curled. The leaves, when attached to the long stems, are often described as appearing similar to the shape of a miniature sized palm frond. Petite® Tangerine Lace™ is crisp and tender with a bright citrus and green herb flavor with notes of mint, tangerine, and orange.
Petite® Tangerine Lace™ is available year-round.
Petite® Tangerine Lace™ is a young, edible, trademarked plant that is a part of a line of specialty greens grown by Fresh Origins Farm, the leading national producer of both common and unique Petite® Greens, located in San Diego, California. Harvested approximately 4-6 weeks after sowing, Petite® Tangerine Lace™ is slightly larger than the microgreen version and is used by chefs as a garnish and accent to add an unusual lacy texture, vibrant color, and a bright citrus flavor into both savory and sweet dishes.
Petite® Tangerine Lace™ contains some vitamin C, iron, and minerals that contribute to overall daily health.
Petite® Tangerine Lace™ greens are best suited for raw applications as their delicate nature cannot withstand high heat preparations. They are most commonly used as an accent that can be served with seafood such as crab cakes or served over poultry and salads. They can also be blended into herb oils, dressed in sauces, served with cream-based pasta, or used as a substitute for mint and placed as a bright, citrus note in desserts such as ice cream, sorbets, cookies, and cakes. Petite® Tangerine Lace™ pairs well with seafood such as shrimp, crab, lobster, scallops, red snapper, halibut, sturgeon, tuna, salmon, and oysters, lamb, radish, apples, strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, and escarole. They will keep 7-10 days when stored unwashed, in a sealed container, and in the refrigerator.
Petite® Tangerine Lace™ is a specialty variety favored by chefs to add new texture, flavor, and color to dishes to elevate the dining experience. Its unusual shape builds volume to a plate and provides a memorable citrus flavor with a light, tender, and frilly texture. This green was created at Fresh Origins Farm where they use innovation with expert growing techniques to create common and unique Petite® Greens. Fresh Origins Farm grows over 125 varieties of Petite® Greens and also uses the sunny Southern California climate to produce healthy crops with bold, exceptional flavors. The greens are grown in greenhouses that allow for natural sunlight and continuous air circulation, which is an ideal climate for optimum growth and year-round harvest.
Petite® Tangerine Lace™ was created by Fresh Origins Farm in San Diego, California in the 1990s-2000s as a part of the growing micro and Petite® Green trend. Today Petite® Tangerine Lace™ can be found at select distributors of Fresh Origins, such as Specialty Produce, and is available across the United States.
