The tender leaves are smooth and delicate with pink, red, and maroon hues, sometimes displaying a variegated blend of multiple colors. The leaves also bear prominent central veins in each lobe that branch into smaller veins across the surface and are connected to dark, slender stems. Micro Hibiscus Leaf™ is crisp, juicy, and succulent with a tangy, sour, and sweet flavor reminiscent of sweet-tart lemon juice.

Current Facts
Micro Hibiscus Leaf™ is a uniquely colored, young, edible green that is a part of a trademarked line of specialty plants grown by Fresh Origins Farm, the leading national producer of both common and unique microgreens, located in San Diego, California. Fresh Origins uses the sunny Southern California climate to produce healthy crops with bold, exceptional flavors. The microgreens are grown in greenhouses that allow for natural sunlight and continuous air circulation, which is an ideal climate for optimum growth and year-round production. Harvested approximately 14-25 days after sowing, Micro Hibiscus Leaf™ is used by chefs as a garnish to add texture, vibrant colors, and a refreshing sweet and tangy flavor to savory dishes.
Nutritional Value
Micro Hibiscus Leaf™ contains some vitamin C, potassium, iron, and has antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
Applications
Micro Hibiscus Leaf™ is best used raw as its tender and delicate nature cannot withstand prolonged periods of high heat. The leaves can be used as a bed for seafood such as shrimp, salmon, and scallops, or they provide contrast for both raw and cooked vegetables. The leaves are also popularly used as a garnish and can be displayed on cheese boards, in fruit bowls, grain bowls, in salads, and layered into sandwiches. In addition to savory applications, Micro Hibiscus Leaf™ can be used as a garnish for cakes and cocktails or is sometimes used in teas. Micro Hibiscus Leaf™ pairs well with pumpkin, cauliflower, mint, almonds, pine nuts, sesame seeds, and currants. The greens will keep 5-7 days when stored unwashed, in a sealed container, and in the refrigerator.

It is also a sustainable, edible garnish, and the tangy taste pairs well with savory flavors to create an herbal, exotic drink.
