Ethnic/Cultural Info
In 1993, Princess flowers received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. The Royal Horticultural Society is the United Kingdom’s leading gardening charity. The Society manages many different trial gardens across the country. The Award of Garden Merit was created to help at-home gardeners choose plants that are likely to perform well in a regular garden setting. Plants awarded the Garden Merit Award are considered to be excellent for ordinary use, easily available, hearty, and reasonably resistant to pests. Plants being considered for the award are put through a plant trial on a royal garden plot where multiple selections of the same plant are planted side by side for comparison. Plants can be submitted by nurseries, individuals, and breeders and may be grown from seeds or clippings. The trials are then assessed by a panel of plant experts who judge a variety of aspects of the plant. The panels assessments are submitted to the Royal Horticultural Society’s Plant Committee, who in turn chooses which plants are worthy of the Garden Merit.
