Description/Taste
The Pakistan mulberry is elongated in shape, ranging between one to five inches long and dark purple in color with a green stem. The fruit is mild, with a unique sweet and spicy flavor, and balanced acidity. Though the stringy central core is edible, the taste is not pleasant and is usually discarded. Unlike Persian mulberries, the Pakistan mulberry has a firmer, stronger skin resulting in a longer shelf life.
Seasons/Availability
The Pakistan mulberry is available in spring until the very beginning of summer. Their season may last longer in higher elevations.
Current Facts
The Pakistan mulberry is a member of the Moraceae botanical family and the Morus species. It is not actually a berry, but a collective fruit. There are over 150 different species of mulberries that produce red, white, pink and near black fruits.
