Description/Taste
Green Romano beans are broad and flattened in shape, averaging about five inches in length at maturity. The beans have a stringless seam that opens rather easily while still young. The pods cling loosely to a series of about six tiny lime green colored peas. The beans are crisp and fleshy in texture, extremely succulent, packing an assertively sweet punch, leaving little trace of any other flavors.
Seasons/Availability
Green Romano beans are harvested at Gloria Tamai's farm during the fall months.
Ethnic/Cultural Info
The Green Romano beans are highly favored in Italy.
Geography/History
As its given name suggests, the Romano bean is native to Italy. In fact, it is sometimes referred to generically as an Italian Pole bean. Pole beans are known to yield longer harvests per season than bush bean varieties. Green Romano beans are harvested for fresh eating, canning and freezing.
