Wild Strawberries
Estimated Inventory, bskt : 0
Description/Taste
Heart-shaped and varying in size and color, wild strawberries are about the size of a raspberry. Looking just like miniature versions of common strawberries, this tiny replica is much smaller and sweeter than the standard strawberry.
Seasons/Availability
Wild strawberries are available late spring to early summer.
Nutritional Value
Offering some fiber and an excellent source of vitamin C, strawberries, as well as other berries, are said to be cleansing agents for the bladder and colon. Strawberries are excellent for the skin and help prevent tartar.
Applications
Fully ripe wild strawberries are very sweet and most often left fresh and whole. Add to layers of whipped cream, and pound cake in a trifle. Top fresh fruit tarts with whole berries. Add to ice cream custard and freeze. Add wild strawberries to scone dough or muffin batter. Cook down whole berries with sugar and lemon juice to make preserves. To store, keep in container or lie separately between paper towels; refrigerate. Very perishable, do not store these fragile berries longer than two days.
