Current Facts
Blossoms from the apple tree, or Malus domestica, are synonymous with the arrival of spring. As a deciduous tree in the Rose family, its diversity was once as rich as 20,000 varieties. Today only about 100 types of apple are grown commercially, and as few as ten make up the majority of production in the United States.
