Geography/History
The plum is a member of the genus Prunus and is related to the nectarine, almond and peach. Plums have a hard pit inside and are referred to as "drupes" and categorized as stone fruit. Plums are considered an ancient fruit. They have been documented in writing as early as 479 B.C. The plum is very important in Chinese culture, specifically in the writings of Confucius. Second to the apple, the plum is the most cultivated fruit in the world.
