Description/Taste
Hydroponic Watercress is an entirely edible, delicately textured green with lime colored leaflets that generally have three ovately shaped lobes. The leaves sprout from thin succulent stems that all connected to a a cluster of roots that have been grown in water. Each element of the plant carries flavors of pepper and mustard that become bolder with the plant's maturity. Hydroponic Watercress is generally more tame flavored than soil-sown and wild watercress.
Seasons/Availability
Hydroponic Watercress is available year-round.
Current Facts
Cress is a general name that groups a class of sharply flavored greens that are used in salads and as potherbs. Watercress, meaning "nose twister", scientific name Nasturtium officinale, is a member of the Cruciferea, along with cabbages, kales and mustards. It is a cool season aquatic and semi-aquatic perennial herb, though, much like arugula, it is used primarily as a lettuce green.
Geography/History
Watercress is native to Europe and Asia, with documentation of its existence dating back to 3,000 years ago to the Phoenicians, Ancient Greece and Portugal. It was cultivated from a wild plant in Europe in 100 A.D. Hydroponic Watercress is grown utilizing a super climate controlled greenhouse environment. Nutrients are slow-fed into the plants, free of chemiclas and pesticides. Technology drives the consistency of the growth and flavor of the plant.
