Inventory, lb : 0
Description/Taste
The Autumn Glory apple is on the large side, and tends toward an asymmetrical shape. It has yellow skin streaked with red striations. The Autumn Glory’s yellow flesh is firm, crisp/crunchy, coarse, and very juicy. It has a cider-like aroma, while the mostly sweet flavor is tastes like candy apple or baked apple pie, with caramel and cinnamon notes. Autumn Glory apples do not have much acidity. This apple resembles its parents in flavor, especially the Fuji.
Seasons/Availability
Autumn Glory apples are available in mid-fall through spring.
Current Facts
The Autumn Glory apple is a Malus domestica cross between the Fuji and the Golden Delicious. New to the market, it was originally developed in Washington State by grower Superfresh, and is exclusively marketed by that company.
Nutritional Value
Apples are low in calories and nutrients such as fat, sodium, and cholesterol. They do contain plenty of fiber, including soluble fiber and pectin, as well as Vitamin C, potassium, and boron. Apples promote healthy cardiovascular, digestive, and immune systems.
Applications
The crisp and juicy texture of an Autumn Glory can be enjoyed fresh out-of-hand r cooked. They are already sweet and have a flavor reminiscent of cinnamon and spice, so they are especially delicious in baked goods. Make a sweet applesauce or add diced apples to garden or fruit salads. Pair with strong cheeses and charcuterie as well for a more savory dish. Store in the refrigerator or another cool, dry place for several weeks.
Ethnic/Cultural Info
A new generation of apples is being developed by companies around the world, which retain the exclusive rights to market them. The Autumn Glory is one example that falls into this category. New mass-marketed varieties are part of a resurgence in American interest in discovering more apples beyond the usual ones found in supermarkets over the last few decades.
Geography/History
Autumn Glory apples were first introduced by Domex Superfresh Growers in 2011, in Washington state. They were first offered as a limited West Coast release with plans for a broader North American distribution.
