Petite® Lemon Grass™ can also be infused into cocktails, steeped into teas, or used as a citrusy flavoring in sparkling beverages. Chefs favor Petite® Lemon Grass™ for its herbal, citrus-forward flavor and incorporate the greens into Asian-inspired preparations, especially dishes found in Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Indian, and Chinese cuisine. The Petite® Greens will generally keep up to seven days when stored unwashed, dry, and in a container in the refrigerator. It is recommended to use Petite® Lemon Grass™ immediately for the best quality and flavor.
Ethnic/Cultural Info
Lemon Grass has been cultivated in Asia since ancient times and is a medicinal, cosmetic, and culinary herb. India is the largest producer of Lemon Grass, and the country cultivates approximately 80% of the world’s supply. The elongated, narrow stalks are primarily grown in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala and are a traditional ingredient in natural practices. In Ayurvedic medicine, Lemon Grass is known as Bhutrina, translating to mean “earth grass,” and is used as a cooling, stimulating, and bitter herb. Mature stalks are commonly pressed into oil, used topically to soothe muscle pain, headaches, and increase circulation. Lemon Grass oil can also be used to calm upset stomachs and is a typical scent found in lotions, soaps, oils, and candles. Practitioners view Lemon Grass oil as a purifying ingredient to improve the clarity and mood of the body.
