Geography/History
Locally growing premium produce since 1968 at Valley Center and Palma Valley, California, Polito Family Farms typically specializes in citrus. Producing nearly thirty different varieties of superior varieties, this renowned sixty-acre farm is pesticide-free. Shasta Gold™ is the trademark name for this TDE2 mandarin hybrid, a hybrid developed at the University of California at Riverside. One of its contributing parents is a tetraploid hybrid of Temple and Dancy, and the other parent is Encore. This complex parentage makes Shasta Gold™ a triploid which confers low seed content, the same as seedless watermelon which has a similar origin.
