Description/Taste
Tiger Stripe figs have a teardrop shape with a plump and bulbous bottom narrowing at the neck. The medium size fruits have faintly ribbed, pale-yellow skins covered in light to dark green vertical stripes of varying widths. They have a medium-thick layer of white pulp surrounding crimson, seedy pulp. Tiger Stripe figs are very sweet and have a high sugar content, offering a bright berry flavor with hints of citrus. The flavor has been likened to raspberry jam.
Seasons/Availability
Tiger Stripe figs are available in the late summer and fall months.
Current Facts
Tiger Stripe figs are a unique variety of the common fig. They have variegated skins and a late harvest date and unlike most fig varieties, Tiger Stripe fig trees don’t produce a breba crop, or what growers call a “bonus crop,” in the early spring. They are botanically classified as Ficus carica and are commonly known as Panache figs. They are considered one of the best tasting figs and require a long, warm growing season to develop their sweet flavor. The two-toned Tiger Stripe figs are also referred to as Candy Stripe figs.
