Description/Taste
Honey Kiss melons are elongated in shape and are a Hami variety melon. They have a golden exterior skin that is covered in a cream colored netting. The interior flesh is a pale, peach color and is crisp and juicy. The flavor of the Honey Kiss melon is very sweet, with a Brix level ranging between 12-16. Choose Honey Kiss melons with a sweet honey aroma and a few brown spots on the outside as these are sugar spots indicating an extremely sweet melon.
Seasons/Availability
Honey Kiss melons are available in the summer to early fall months.
Current Facts
Honey Kiss melons are botanically known as Cucumis melo. Honey Kiss melons were specifically developed for Sandstone Melon company in the early 2000s as part of a specialty line of melons that were all branded under the "Kiss" name. Along with the Honey Kiss melon, the line also includes the sugar kiss, golden kiss and summer kiss melon. These were all marketed with the tag line "A Kiss for Every Desire." Due to its popularity, the company has recently released mini kiss melons to attract children and smaller households.
Nutritional Value
Honey Kiss melons are a good source of vitamins A, B and C. They also have antioxidant properties that are believed to help protect against certain cancers.
Applications
Honey Kiss melons are best for use in fresh applications. Cut melons into cubes for fresh eating or slice thinly and wrap with prosciutto or pair with other cured meats.
