Description/Taste
Delicata squash has a ridged, cream colored rind with dark green longitudinal stripes and flecks of color. Despite having a very tough outer skin Delicata squash has a fine grained, light orange flesh with a creamy, sweet potato like flavor. This squash averages about one to three pounds in weight and typically range in size between seven and nine inches.

Delicata squash are available in the fall and winter months.

Delicata is an heirloom squash variety that was introduced into the market in the early 1890s. It is botanically known as Cucurbita pepo and belongs to the same species as acorn and spaghetti squash. Delicata squash is also commonly known as sweet potato squash or peanut squash.
