Description/Taste
Moro blood oranges are a medium-sized citrus variety with a thin rind that is rich in oil. The exterior pink blushing is directly correlated to the color of the inner flesh. The nearly seedless pulp has a magenta tint and can range from subtle blonde and pink streaks to a fully saturated dark burgundy color. The oranges with the deepest pigmentation will exhibit more intense sweet berry notes characteristic to blood oranges. They are relatively juicy and considerably more acidic when harvested in the early winter months as compared to later season Moros which tend to be slightly less tart.

Current Facts
Moro blood oranges are an Italian variety of Citrus sinensis. Their color is due to a pigment called anthocyanin, not usually present in citrus but common in other red fruits and flowers. Fluctuations in temperature greatly affect the degree in which blood oranges develop their characteristic blush. Though the Moro can vary greatly in this respect, no other blood orange variety is known to exhibit such deeply red colored fruits.
