Description/Taste
Petite® Chives are small, elongated, and slender greens, averaging 3 to 5 centimeters in length, and have a tubular, needle-like appearance. The young greens are fragile, easily snapping, and are bright green with a few edible, black-purple seeds attached at the tips. The greens are also thin and flexible with a smooth, even texture. Petite® Chives have a crunchy, succulent, and juicy consistency with a robustly salty, green taste mixed with a spicy-sweet undertone.

Ethnic/Cultural Info
The long needle-like leaves of the chive herb were used by gypsies over a century ago in fortune telling. They would take a bunch of chives and spread them out over a hard surface. The configuration of the chive bunch would allow the fortune teller to predict future events. They were also hung over doors in the Medieval Ages to ward off evil.
Geography/History
The chive is native to the Mediterranean region as well as Asia. The word chive is derived from the ancient word meaning "reed-like leek." Chives have been used in ancient China for roughly 3,000 years mainly for their medicinal qualities. It is believed chives were introduced and spread to Europe by the explorer Marco Polo.
