Bananas - Plantain - Cultivation
Plantains are large herbs that grow in tropical, warm, and humid climates. These plants need sun and well-draining, fertile soil that is mixed with slow-releasing fertilizer once a month. Plantains are very sensitive to wind and frost and need to be kept at a stable, warm temperature. Mulching around the base of the plant with organic materials will help the soil retain water and keep the roots warm. Placing a blanket over the plant with a lit light bulb inside also creates warmth. These plants require frequent watering as the soil should never dry out, but also never grow water-logged. Plantains are grown from suckers and can be planted year-round. It will take approximately eighteen months for the plant to bear fruit.
