Petite® Red Watercress greens are small in size, averaging 10-12 centimeters in length and have wide, oval to cordate shaped leaves with tender, slender stems. The purple leaves are flat, thin, and pliable with many bright green veins branching across the surface and the stems are also bright green, firm, and crisp. Petite® Red Watercress greens are crunchy with a peppery flavor but are not overpowering as they also contain a mild, slightly bitter and spicy taste.

Petite® Red Watercress is an early harvest, edible green that is a part of a trademarked line of specialty greens grown by Fresh Origins Farm, the leading national producer of both common and unique microgreens, located in San Diego, California. Designed to be slightly larger than microgreens, Petite® Red Watercress is harvested 4-6 weeks after sowing and is primarily used as an edible garnish to add a spicy, peppery flavor and to elevate flavor, texture, and visual appeal using its unusual coloring.

Petite® Red Watercress greens have a peppery bite that is best suited for raw applications in savory dishes as their unique coloring will fade with cooking. The spicy greens are most commonly used as a garnish and can be tossed into salads, soups, stews, and stir-fries. They can also be sprinkled over rice dishes, layered into fresh spring rolls, mixed into grain bowls or pasta, combined into tacos, minced into pesto, garnished over cocktails, or blended into spreads that are served over toast.
