Current Facts
Cypress Mix combines the beauty and versatility of three different items: Lemon Cypress, Blue Cypress and Golden Cypress. These colorful, aromatic greens are produced by Kelly Sasuga of Sunny Greens farm in San Diego, California. The freshly harvested sprigs are the young growing tips of mature evergreen conifers and were developed as a beverage garnish with both visual appeals, refreshing aromatic qualities, and exceptionally long shelf-life. Cypress Mix is currently offered in limited quantities based on the growth rate of the Cypress trees.
Nutritional Value
Cypress Mix is offered as a decorative garnish. Cypress is known to possess essential oils that naturally contribute to the fresh, piney or citrusy aroma. These scents create a positive sensory experience and are associated with a variety of health benefits.
Applications
Cypress Mix contains the vibrant colors of lemon yellow, gold, chartreus, ivory, green, and silvery blue. Besides the beautiful array of color, Cypress Mix displays a feathery, plumed, multi-branched, upright appearance. It is a distinctive specialty garnish idea that also provides a refreshing bouquet of aromas. The durability and versatility mean they can be used in several ways; upright to provide vertical height, fully or partially submerged or simply placed horizontally on the top of a glass. Cypress Mix can be used in a variety of beverages, from cocktails, mocktails, and sparkling juices to iced tea. The decorative garnish adds color and texture to increase a drink’s visual appeal, and the scent helps to complete the overall experience as it is inhaled and enjoyed when consuming the beverage. Cypress Mix will keep up to one month when stored in its packaging in the refrigerator. This product has little waste as it can be used for extended periods.
Ethnic/Cultural Info
Cypress Mix is harvested from the young growth tips of evergreen coniferous trees. Conifers provide shade and shelter, lumber, firewood, paper, pine nuts and juniper berries. Redwood trees are conifers that are the tallest trees in the world. Other conifers include cedar, Douglas fir, pine, hemlock and spruce. Conifers provide vast habitats for wildlife and create opportunities for recreational activities like camping, hunting, hiking, and birdwatching. Conifers are a rich resource of phytochemicals that benefit human health. Cypress Mix is yet another use for these amazing trees. Cypress Mix is an essential element in the bourgeoning field of mixology.
Geography/History
Cypress Mix is an innovative new garnish developed in Vista, California, a suburb of San Diego. The idea for these remarkable specialty garnishes came from a new farm called Sunny Greens. Owned by Kelly Sasuga, an entrepreneur and culinary professional whose background includes several years at Fresh Origins working to help her family business grow and prosper. The greens are currently only available in the San Diego area, distributed by Specialty Produce. This is consistent with a decades-long relationship between the Sasuga family and Specialty Produce. Sasuga developed these unique garnishes after a local landscaper gave her some young conifer trees to plant in her back yard. As she cared for the trees and they grew larger, she was inspired by the beauty and pleasant scent of the foliage, and the idea to utilize the fresh young growth as an easy-to-use, aromatic, decorative garnish was born.
