The September Yummy® plum is comparable to the Santa Rosa plum in most all regards, but lacks the bitterness at the stone and skin. Its smooth surface is speckled red and purple developing into a deep ruby when fully ripe. The interior flesh is a creamy golden color with a firm, slightly crunchy texture. It is extremely juicy when ripe with relatively low acidity, offering candy-like flavors reminiscent of fruit punch and juicy fruit gum.
The September Yummy® plum is available in the late summer and fall.
The September Yummy ® plum is a registered trademark name of Johnny Appleseed Holdings, Ltd., and traded by the Yummy Fruit Company in Hastings, New Zealand. The fruit was developed by Bradford Farms in Le Grand, California and modeled after its close relative the Santa Rosa plum. It is a stone fruit cultivar within the genus, Prunus, and is prized for its improved flavor, aroma, shape, late-season ripening, disease resistance and long shelf-life.
